I spent the first week of spring preparing for the rescue's first adoption event. Now that our first spectacular adoption event is over I have time to tell how that wonderful first week of spring started.
On Sunday the 20th for the first time I picked up a rescue dog from transport. A beautiful white Husky, Emerald, left Mississippi on Friday morning and we met the transportation company at Manchester, NH. It was a gorgeous sunny day and right before we left I saw two turkey vultures, the first migratory arrivals, soaring effortlessly in the cloudless bright blue sky. Emerald was picked out specifically for a friend who came with me to meet her new fur baby. We were both excited about the trip. After arriving at the drop off location and eating lunch we browsed at some marvelous photos my friend had taken of the mountains and Lake Champlain. When transport arrived a couple hours later Emerald emerged from the back of the truck and immediately starting licking her new mom's face. I gave her some food and water. She ate most of the food and playfully pawed at the bowl spilling the rest on the ground. Then we headed out for the return trip. As we were driving back to Vermont the sun was setting and the sky was the most intense beautiful shade of magenta with a column of extra bright intensity emanating from the setting sun upward creating a very awe inspiring image with the deep green of the mountains in the foreground. With Emerald resting peacefully in the back seat her new mom asked me if I thought Emerald knew she was heading to her new home. I said yes. As we continued to drive the car felt like it had wings. It was Spring Equinox, an exciting moment for all of us. For Emerald, now Spring Emerald, it is leaving behind a life of neglect and moving into a wonderful life in Vermont. For Spring Emerald's mom it is once again having a Husky baby to care for and love. For me, it was my first transport trip and the fact that the dog we rescued was being adopted by a friend made it extra special. I will always remember that special day. I am grateful I was able to rescue Spring Emerald, find a new fur baby for a friend, and be able to share our story. Happy Spring! Thank you to everyone who made our first adoption event a spectacular success!
Thank you to Sam and everyone at Agway in Essex for offering to let us have an adoption event at their location, Thank you to Kaaren, Jill and Brittany for grooming our gorgeous girls and donating proceeds from nail trimming for the day, Thank you to Susan, Jen and Chuck for helping me all day at the event, Thank you to Jen for donating the wonderful gift basket for our raffle and the yummy baked goods, Thank you to the girl who donated the wonderful tug of war pup toys and Thank you to everyone who came by to support us. Thanks to all of our supporters we found a new loving forever home for Thelma, raised $262.00 that will be used to transport Bugsy, Squirt, and Pepsi to Vermont and had a great time :) Recently we pulled three dogs, Pepsi, Squirt, and Bugsy(above) from a shelter in Texas. I am very grateful to be able to save these three dogs and find them new loving forever homes in Vermont. I envision this as the beginning of a program, the Cow Pups Program, that will continue to pull dogs from overcrowded shelters in Texas and find them loving homes in Vermont. In order for this program to succeed we need people willing to foster dogs for us. The dogs will need to be in foster care for approximately a month before they can be transported to Vermont. If you are interested in helping us save a Cow Pup by providing a temporary loving home to a rescue dog and live in or near Arlington, Corsicana or Mesquite Texas please email [email protected] for more information. Thank you and have a Woofderful day! We would like to send a big thank you to Kaaren Dagostino, one of the owners of "Happy Dog Grooming Shoppe" located in Agway of Essex for offering free grooming for the dogs we will have at the adoption event on March 26th!
Also we are very excited and grateful to announce that "Happy Dog Grooming Shoppe" will be donating all proceeds from nail clipping that come in on March 26th to Little Woof Small Dog Rescue. Thank you so much :) Beautiful loving Thelma arrived on Saturday evening and made herself right at home. For more information about this gorgeous girl please see our adoptable dog page. Thank you and have a Woofderful day :)
